Formula & methodology
Each month: balance = (balance + that month's investment) × (1 + monthly return), compounding the contribution from the start of the month — the standard SIP convention. With a step-up, the monthly investment increases by the step-up % at the start of each new year.
Example: ₹10,000/month at 12% expected return for 10 years with no step-up grows to about ₹23,23,391 (₹12,00,000 invested, ₹11,23,391 gained). With a 10% annual step-up, the same starting amount grows to about ₹33,74,326.

Frequently asked questions
Are SIP returns guaranteed at the rate I enter?
No — mutual fund SIP returns depend entirely on market performance of the funds you invest in. 12% is a commonly used long-term equity-market assumption in India, not a promise; try a couple of different rates to see a range of outcomes.
What is a step-up SIP?
A SIP where you increase your monthly investment by a fixed percentage every year (e.g. in line with salary increments) rather than keeping it flat — it can meaningfully grow your final corpus since later, larger instalments still get a long time to compound.
Why does the calculator assume investment at the start of each month?
It follows the standard SIP convention used across Indian mutual fund calculators, where each instalment is treated as invested at the start of its period and earns that period's return too — consistent with how AMFI and fund houses typically illustrate SIP growth.
