Does this confirm the PAN or GSTIN is real / actually registered?
No. It only checks the format (and, for GSTIN, the checksum). Confirming a PAN or GSTIN is actually registered to someone requires the official Income Tax or GST portal verification service.
What does the 4th character of a PAN mean?
It's the holder type — for example P for an individual person, C for a company, H for a Hindu Undivided Family, and F for a firm.
What is the PAN embedded inside a GSTIN?
A GSTIN's characters 3 to 12 are that business's actual 10-character PAN — so if you have someone's GSTIN, you already have their PAN. This tool extracts it automatically when you validate a GSTIN.
How is the GSTIN checksum verified?
GSTIN's 15th character is a real check digit computed from the first 14 characters using a documented mod-36 algorithm (similar in spirit to a Luhn check) — the tool recomputes it and confirms it matches, catching typos a plain format regex would miss.
