Frequently asked questions

What's CPP2?

An additional CPP contribution (4%) introduced in 2024 on earnings between the standard YMPE ($71,300 for 2025) and a higher additional ceiling (YAMPE, $81,200 for 2025) — on top of the base 5.95% CPP contribution.

Does self-employment change this?

Yes — self-employed individuals pay both the employee and employer share of CPP (11.9% combined), and don't pay EI premiums on self-employment income unless they've opted into the special benefits program.
