Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between GST and HST?

GST (5%) is the federal sales tax alone, charged in most provinces alongside their own separate provincial sales tax. HST (13-15%) is a single harmonized tax combining GST and the provincial portion, used in Ontario and the Atlantic provinces.

Why isn't British Columbia, Manitoba or Saskatchewan's provincial sales tax included?

Those provinces charge GST plus their own separate PST, calculated independently (not combined into one harmonized rate like HST) — this tool covers the GST portion for those provinces; add your province's PST separately.
