HECS-HELP Repayment Calculator

Estimate your HECS-HELP compulsory repayment online for free from your repayment income and current ATO repayment rate. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded.

HECS-HELP repayment rates are set on a sliding scale by your repayment income, and the exact thresholds change each year — look up your current rate on the ATO's repayment income thresholds table and enter it here, since it isn't safe to hard-code correctly for every income level.

Your data is processed locally in your browser and is never uploaded to our server.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to enter the rate myself instead of the tool working it out?

HECS-HELP uses a sliding scale of many income bands, and both the bands and rates are indexed and can change each year — rather than risk an out-of-date table giving you the wrong figure, this tool asks for the current rate directly from the ATO's own published table.

What counts as 'repayment income'?

It's broader than your taxable income — it also adds back things like total net investment losses, exempt foreign employment income, and reportable fringe benefits and super contributions. Check the ATO's definition if you have any of these.
