Frequently asked questions

Does this include 401(k) or health insurance deductions?

No — it estimates take-home pay after federal tax, state tax (at the rate you enter) and FICA only. Pre-tax deductions like 401(k) contributions or health premiums would reduce your taxable income further — this is a baseline estimate.

What's FICA?

The combined Social Security (6.2%, up to the annual wage base) and Medicare (1.45%, no cap) payroll tax, required on nearly all US wages.
