Frequently asked questions
Why is a 30% markup not the same as a 30% margin?
A 30% markup on a ₹100 cost gives a ₹130 price (profit is 23% of that price). A 30% margin on a ₹100 selling price means cost was ₹70. They answer different questions — pick the one matching how you actually price.
Which should I use to set my prices, markup or margin?
Either works — markup is usually easier to reason about starting from your known cost, while margin is easier to compare against a target profitability percentage of sales.
